Drift

Drift developed from my reaction to seeing a rubber duck floating through a canal in Venice after being left behind by tourists. I became interested in the contrast between this artificial object and the living birds moving through the same waterways, particularly within a city that already exists between natural and constructed worlds. In one piece, I introduced an origami boat that I folded myself, further exploring ideas of travel, intervention, and human presence within the landscape. Throughout the series, floating objects and waterfowl occupy the same spaces, reflecting my interest in the ways tourism, human intervention, and playfulness become absorbed into the ecology of Venice. The work explores coexistence between manufactured and organic forms within an environment shaped equally by water, culture, and adaptation.
